This is a very important dynamic to understand: iron is the metal that ages us. It’s what’s behind oxidative stress. It’s also the trigger for the loss of magnesium that leads to inflammation. We need to understand how these two minerals relate to each other, and it turns out that over the course of the day, magnesium and iron are fighting over oxygen all day long. Our bodies cannot handle the iron that we're being exposed to. Our foods have been "fortified" with iron since the 1940's. Meaning you'll find iron in conventional breads, baby formula and cereals. It's in our multi and prenatal vitamins. From a root cause perspective, iron causes rust when it's not managed correctly. And we're all being exposed to too much iron. We need important minerals, like magnesium, to manage this excess iron. Anemia means that iron is stuck in our tissues, not in the blood. I do not recommend iron supplements for anemia. It's not addressing the root cause. We have plenty of iron in our lives, promise. If you are someone who has been told they need more iron or if you're experiencing any uncomfortable symptoms, then we should talk! I am willing to bet that iron overload is at the root of your issue.

Symptoms are our best teachers. Be sure you are paying attention to them and not just covering them up with over the counter drugs and pharmaceuticals. From a root cause perspective, someone who is diagnosed with hypothyroidism has low magnesium and copper, and high iron. Simply taking Synthroid doesn't address the actual cause of this issue. I weaned off synthroid over 3 years ago after my doctor and a nutritionist told me it's not possible. I can help you find the reason behind your symptoms.
